Re: IceSL

Any idea if IceSL is better at editing .stl files from, say, Thingiverse than OpenSCAD?

I've found that to be a painful experience in OpenSCAD.

Re: Shapeoko 3 Limit Switch Kits

There are no new features really. Tim's point is well taken. How many features can you really add to a switch mount? My designs were only suggestions to Tim about how the manufacturing might be simplified. It would be silly to replace working switches with these just because they are a newer design...

Re: SO3 Z-axis spring alternative

Not the ones I could find. I had the same thought when wondering about both a heavier spindle and increasing speed. They may exist or maybe we need to design our own. I have been doodling a spring clamp held open by a solenoid but seems either complicated, increases the distance the spindle is away ...

Re: SO3 Z-axis spring alternative

When I looked at these I couldn't see what they would improve at any price. As Tim said, the brake requires power and if the power fails, the spindle still drops into the work.

So far, nobody has had a suggestion that works well when the power fails and improves on the current spring.

Re: Vacuuming MDF

A Dust Deputy may work great for large particles but, for me at least, it didn't even begin to catch the very fine dust from a PCB burr.

Re: Vacuuming MDF

Probably not useful for MDF but for plastic like glass filled polyester and printed circuit boards and similar materials that generate hazardous dust, I built a water filtration system. Two Homer buckets and a Bucket Head shop from Home Depot vac, a bunch of PVC pipe and several hours of milling. Vo...

Re: S3 Electronics Enclosure

This is nice looking but I have a question about it.

If you are milling aluminum, why not turn it upside down so that any falling chips can't enter the wire holes on the top?

Re: Another wiki

Yes, they have a store but they also have a lot of information. I've been following their analysis of stepper drivers for quite a while and think their thoughts about the best way to build Toshiba based drivers is spot on. If DRV8825s don't work for you, their drivers make a lot of sense to me. Unfo...

Re: MakerCam 2 times bigger than result?

Ideally, an SMT reflow oven uses nitrogen to purge oxygen from the process. However, a Dewar of liquid nitrogen is an expense that most people would like to remove so often reflow soldering is done with air. That can easily oxidize things like switch contacts if they are not plated with expensive, p...
