Re: makerslide longer than 2000MM

I asked Zach this very question a month or two ago (while dreaming of building a full sheet shapeoko). He said the problem is that UPS will not ship longer than 2000mm. He also said that Bart thinks joining makerslide together should work fine: just smooth the seam with bondo and sand down. If I was...

Heat Sinks

Never one to leave good enough alone, I decided to cut out some heatsinks for the bottom of my TinyG drivers. Roughly copied the design from the Synthetos sinks, that are on top of the chips, but made them a lot longer and out of 1/4" aluminum. 1.jpg The fins are 1mm wide and cut with a 1mm 2-flute ...

Re: 300 watt DC ER11 spindle.

I don't know. 300 might be pretty good. It is right between the Proxxon at 100 watts, which seemed underpowered for the Shapeoko, and the Dewalt Dw660 at 600 watts which as far as anything I've thrown at it has had an infinite amount of power. I like that the body is a cylinder and it includes a mou...

Phantom missed steps and old(er) firmware

So I had been having intermittent problems with what seemed to be missed steps (drifting by a millimeter or two over 11 passes in aluminum for example). Had tried a lot of things to fix it (different current settings, different cooling solutions, different motors) with no success. Finally, found a c...

Re: GRBL Freezes while sending a file

I was having similar issues (albeit with tinyg rather than grblshield) and they seem to have been due to electromagnetic interference messing up the usb communication. Anyway, I put the spindle (and my shop-vac) on a different ac circuit than my controller and laptop and my problems disappeared (kno...

Re: More OrdBot Parts

I remembered there was some difficulty getting these nut blocks manufactured correctly, so I figured it was tricky. But you are right, it seems doable with a drill press. As long as the stock you start with is really square. I was thinking about going with acme-rod. But the taps for acme thread that...

Re: More OrdBot Parts

So, I'm going to try to go the same route, spawning an ordbot from the shapeoko. I was wondering if you've decided what you are going to substitute for a nut block -- as far as I can tell these aren't readily available anywhere. Also, are you planning on trying to bend the extruder carriage, or go w...

Re: Electro-magnetic interference from spindle ??

Blew the board out thoroughly with compressed air. Still had the problem. Going with the vibration theory, I started disconnecting the shapeoko stepper by stepper looking for a loose connection. Wound up with the tinyg on the floor next to the shapeoko table, totally disconnected from the shapeoko a...

Re: Electro-magnetic interference from spindle ??

The short seems a lot more likely than my various theories. Especially since I was messing with aluminum about a week ago. I did give it a once-over with the shop-vac earlier today, but I will try something more thorough.

Electro-magnetic interference from spindle ??

So, I've had this recurring problem where my shapeoko would just stop in the middle of a file. It has gotten more frequent recently, to the point where I can't actually mill anything anymore. After a lot of time testing today it seems to happen if and only if my spindle (a Proxxon) is on. And the sp...
