Re: Alternate sources / options

I'm testing the waters here, but would you find it useful if I had a variety of M5 fasteners in my store? They would cost a lot more than buying them in packs of 100 or 200 online, but you would be able to get exactly what you needed, and come up cheaper than buying an assortment box full of useles...

Re: Alternate sources / options

I generally find that the best way to get anything is order it from China and wait. I understand you're probably looking for convenience but this just isn't an option for me. e.g. If I wanted to buy roll pins locally my only option is a £10 assortment box*, which might net me 10 of the size I'm actu...

Re: what kindof cables and how to paint?

Might have some trouble with painted bolt threads, or are those sacrificial bolts to save the threads of the pieces?
Also what the heck is that piece in the top right?

Re: We would like to contribute

It would be nice if it could remember the last details you entered. For example if I set up a profile cut, for the next cut it should open the dialog with all of my previous info. I spend a lot of my time in Makercam entering the same info, 3mm tool, 2mm safety, 1.5mm step down, 800mm/min etc. What ...

Re: what kindof cables and how to paint?

Either buy spray paint specifically for metal or use primer. I just used what I had lying around, acrylic primer, matt black, and a bit of red.

Re: Hobby or machinist?

Hobby, sort of. When I was studying we had access to a laser cutter, I was getting withdrawal so I had to buy my own CNC.
I've been using it a lot for work though, prop building.

Re: The Rules of Shapeoko

I've never run out of M5 washers. Maybe that's because cvoinescu anticipated the problem and threw in a bunch of extras. I don't have any M5 hardware really, all my stock is M6, because that's what my last machine was based around. Otherwise I agree with everything. My sister very politely listened ...

Re: Just starting out--advice on parts

I think people have mentioned all the stuff you need (second on the dual Y drive, especially if you want to do small stuff). In regards to selling things, I've been doing this for a while prior to buying an eShapeoko. Whilst the machine definitely will help in terms of productivity, repeatability et...

Re: Help cutting a small job in the UK?

It looks like a relatively simple job. It'll require 2 sided machining, but it's simple to set up for a part like this. HDPE is fine in terms of UV resistance but I'm not sure about the effects of chlorine. This chemical resistance chart is quite helpful. HDPE is rated 'C' Moderate attack of appreci...

My classmates and I would like to improve MakerCAM. This post is being sent as a poll request for any hot-button issues or request for areas of improvement for MakerCAM. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Our initial areas of focus are on improving toolkits and converting the application to HTML ...
