Re: Where to buy materials in U.K?

A place near me has a pile of free discarded pallets, but in the U.K I've only ever seen rubbish softwood ones, on the other hand I've only ever dealt with waste discarded ones (I usually use them for burning) so maybe it is the case that hardwood pallets just don't get given away as often / ever. W...

Re: Where to buy materials in U.K?

I've got a fair bit of pine (pallet material) left over studwork etc. but it's not very good for milling. I think most firewood is probably pine or a similar softwood. But I was really looking for a bit of 1x2x3" dark hardwood (walnut etc) to make a phone dock. Larger bits would be better, but that'...

Re: Free CAM package (that works!)

The default permissions are usually set by the program, but you should check the permissions on the Chrome download directory. It's possible that Chrome is just honoring whatever the parent directory is set to... I've check other files that were downloaded with Chrome into the same folder, and they...

Re: Inkscape plugin for Hershey engraving fonts

That's awesome, thanks for that.

I spent a good few hours last weekend hand editing a font I wanted so it was single line.

Although it seems, more and more, that using Illustrator over Inkscape is putting me at a disadvantage.

Re: Where to buy materials in U.K?

All I wanted was some 6mm brass stock and I was unable to find it for less than £60. I think I'll just have to step up my scavenging and give up on milling metal for now.

Where to buy materials in U.K?

Now that I've got my machine running I'm having a hard time tracking down raw materials to actually make anything with it. I can get MDF and ply from Wickes etc. but other items are harder to track down. Acrylic sheet HDPE Acetal / Delrin Hardwood Blocks Dense Foams Thick brass stock Aluminium Blank...

Re: Free CAM package (that works!)

Yup, you've cracked it. I opened up the 'get info' panel for both files. The Safari file had 'everyone' at read only access, whilst the chrome file had 'everyone' at no access. So I guess it would have been fine if the files were run from the same computer account they were created. I changed the ac...

Re: Free CAM package (that works!)

Yeah that's just a typo on my part, when entering the name for the tool path.

TBH you've lost me talking about line endings but the Gcode looks identical.
I've checked both of the files (pre zipped) and can't find any differences.

Re: Free CAM package (that works!)

I made a 150px square in illustrator (approx. 53mm), and then in makercam I set up a simple toolpath to engrave 1mm (in 2x0.5mm passes) I did the exact same operation in both Chrome and Safari and put the resultant .ngc files here Both of them show up as identical in Gcodeviewer . Just tested them w...
