Re: Best/Latest Firmware and GCode Tool to use???

We don't have an upgrade policy. We make the boards and with each revision we try to make improvements based on what people tell us, but we can't afford to go back and replace or upgrade previous versions of the HW. We do make sure that all the firmware changes are backwards compatible, and if you h...

Re: Best/Latest Firmware and GCode Tool to use???

Tweak, LTMNO, Thanks for the posts. Yes, we are full steam ahead on v8. we did a lot of updates on the tinyg wiki (https://github.com/synthetos/TinyG/wiki) over the long weekend but didn't get this in there yet. Here are the main differences between v7 and v8: - LEDs moved to a single edge for bette...

Re: Is Synthetos Alive?

Hi. Sorry you are having a problem with response. We are very much alive and continue to develop new features and ship more and more.

Riley and family did go on vacation for a week but they are all caught up as of a few nights ago. We'll check on your order tonight.

Re: Microstep resolution - why not 16x all the time?

The other reason is that as the microsteps goes up you lose power (torque). This has to do with the fact that there is less time for the current to flow and saturate the inductive motor windings. It also has to do with the fact that the step rates available from grbl will max out at high speeds at h...

Re: tinyG Settings

Thanks for the great response. I've been wondering if it makes sense to change the input and display of this value to a number that's divided by a million. On some machines I've set jerk as high as 100 billion. It's a lot of zeros to manage. It might be easier to set it to 100000 for 100 billion. Al...

Re: User Manual

Thanks for putting this together. We've been working hard on the 0.95 release - which is now out, and also updating the github wiki - which serves as the user manual. https://github.com/synthetos/TinyG/wiki If you think there's anything missing please let us know, or better yet just edit it. You hav...

Re: GRBL shield Z-axis mod question

Sorry you are having problems. Presumably you have a v3, or perhaps a v2 - both are green. If you still have trouble let's arrange to get you a new board and you can send us back the old one. Contact us at the synthetos address.

Re: Controller software for PC

Best to start slow and work up, as you suggest. As for max velocity, you are correct. The max velocity ($zvm) sets the rapids speed - the G0 speed. The max feed rate ($zfr) sets the max feed rate allowable for the Z axis. These are vector things - and make sure the axis does not exceed its limits re...

Re: Please help with choice of wires / cables

I prefer 20 gauge or 18 gauge stranded wire, preferably 4 wires + a shield. On eBay if you search for "18 / 4 conductor speaker cable" you can find it and buy by the foot.

Re: GRBLshield add 2nd Y axis

A number of people have added a second motor to the grblShield Y axis w/o issues using NEMA17 motors, although I'm not sure I'd do this with NEMA23 motors. At least not without some really good cooling. Please let us know if you do have any problems but this should be relatively straightforward. --A...
