Re: How do you download the HEX file!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We (Synthetos) are in the Arduino tent at Makerfaire today and tomorrow - right next to the Atmel display. I'll see what I can find out about the web IDE

Re: Stepper won't go in consistent direction

I am glad you found the problem and am sorry you had the problem. If you return the old board we'll give you a refund for it. I'd like to figure out what went wrong - so perhaps we can have an offine discussion to try to narrow that down.

Re: Phantom missed steps and old(er) firmware

One of our users from France found this. We fixed this about 6 months ago in build 337.07. The hex file for the latest master build can be found in the downloads section of the synthetos/tinyg github.

Re: Total Frustration with cutting....

Based on your description of the symptoms I don't think the grblshield is the issue, but if you want to we can take the board out of the equation - or fix it if that turns out to be the problem. If you contact us at synthetos <at> g mail dot com we will arrange a board swap.

Re: grbl firmware on grblshield v2 (synthetos)

So what's happening exactly? When you type
$
...do you get the whole parameter listing?

If you type
$0=400
...do you get the parameter accepted message and does $ show $0=400.00 - or does it show $0=0.00 ?

Re: grbl firmware on grblshield v2 (synthetos)

Sorry no-one's replied. It sounds like you have a problem with your load of grbl onto the Arduino. I agree with you - that's what the ?'s would indicate. Version 8 should be OK. Perhaps you could try 0.7 - which should also work. If there's something flakey in the firmware upload it may manifest its...

Re: Total Frustration with cutting....

Do you have another Arduino to try it out with? Also, are you getting a good clean 24 volts? The fact that the chips are not getting hot says a lot. ADDED: Most boards clear the Arduino USB connector, but try putting some insulating tape on top of it just to rule that out. I'm wracking my brain tryi...

Re: Total Frustration with cutting....

Let's see if it's overheating. First, can you check the bottom of the grblshield and see if the holes under the driver chips are filled with solder. There should be 2 holes under each, both with solder in them. Second, can you put a fan on the board and see if the problem disappears or the behaviors...

Re: ABC Rotation Mod

I'm not sure what you need, but TinyG runs 6 axes (XYZABC) - that you map down to 4 motors. By convention the C axis is rotation about Z.

Re: Cooling the GRBLshield v3 (Inventables Full/Premium #2)

You are correct about the cooling path. The chips exhaust the most heat from a power pad on the bottom. This is soldered to the board, where the heat radiates through the top copper, and through thermal vias to the bottom copper. The Arduino shield footprint limits the total amount of copper that ca...
