CamBam: Holes too big

So I got up my courage to try milling Aluminum for the first time. I wanted to make a Nema 17 motor mounting plate (and some other parts). I am using a .125" endmill and I wanted it to make 2 holes that were 5.25mm on top and 4 3.2mm holes below it: motor mount.gif I set all hole profiles for "insid...

Re: CamBam is trying to kill my Shapeoko

Thank you all for your advice. I have had a few successful jobs using CamBam-generated gcode with grbl 8c thanks to the sage advice from Tom Smith and cvoinescu. It turns out that if I let the default gcode output do its thing, my Z axis tends to go nuts at some point during the job. But if I do a s...

DW660 depth increments on different materials

I am a newbie but have just gotten started making my Shapeoko work with the DW660. Because my Shapeoko was scaled up, I got started carving signs out of pine. At first, I went with conservative settings like .015 inch depth increment. Then I moved to .03. Still, even at that increment a 10" x 8" sig...

Re: CamBam is trying to kill my Shapeoko

What spindle are you using? My dremel would sometimes let the endmill slip a little. It looks like you have one of those drywall router bits which might exacerbate slippage if this is the same problem I had. Forgive the newbie question but what router bit should I use if not a drywall router bit (t...

Re: CamBam is trying to kill my Shapeoko

I'm ordering my DW660. Any ideas on what bit(s) I should order?

Re: CamBam is trying to kill my Shapeoko

Yes it did! Wonderful! It looks like my wife will hate me tonight as I neglect my children and install it, the new motor and the Dewalt 660 that I will get immediately!

Thanks for the speedy and, as it happens, fortuitous package, IC.

Re: CamBam is trying to kill my Shapeoko

Okay, I did a search and replace of the code, started the job and watched. The Z axis continued to sink, albeit not as quickly as before, but before long, the bit was straining and making its awful familiar sound. IMG_1679.JPG I checked for binding but it seemed to move freely. Thinking perhaps that...

Re: CamBam is trying to kill my Shapeoko

Of course you must be right, Tom. 300mm/minute = 12 inches/minute. I'll try it out!
