Re: Makerslide position encoders?

Sigh. Personally, I pulled the design from the svn repo. Why make them on batchpcb? Because it's annoying to etch boards that fine. For surface mount I prefer production quality. I'm probably going to just have a panel made up and stock them on my online shop (which is dead at the moment...) Makerbo...

Re: Magnetic Linear Encoder - pcb/kit

Hmm. I really doubt that interrupts are required on this.
However, you can enable more. See http://www.arduino.cc/playground/Code/Interrupts
You can enable just about all pins. I'm more than happy to burn an arduino for encoders...

Magnetic Linear Encoder - pcb/kit

Makerbot has a nice, simple linear encoder solution, but it's $50/unit/axis! Check it out here: http://wiki.makerbot.com/mle Note that the magnet is just magnetic tape. This solution can scale to whatever size Shapeoko you've built for a few dollars. This is really nice for us. I'm considering havin...

Re: 4 Axis mod ?

I was thinking that I'd build a simple tool spinner for drag knifes. My 4th is on hold until I build a couple more stepper drivers. The board for them came last week, but I have to get some passives and a couple more driver chips. Probably next month. I'm adding a dual driver this time, so I'll have...

Re: Makerslide position encoders?

I think I've found the solution. This board is interesting, but costs way to much (IMO) http://wiki.makerbot.com/mle Seriously, it's got a single chip, three LEDs, three resistors for the LEDs and a single Capacitor for power smoothing. Also, it's small. The chip can be picked up cheap. http://www.f...

Makerslide position encoders?

DRO is one of those things CNC machine modders love adding. It's really useful to have position output. I was looking at this project: http://www.yuriystoys.com/2012/09/do-it-yourself-dro-with-arduino-and.html And looked at the scales he used - they are available in up to 36" or so. Unfortunately, I...

Re: Custom ShapeOko Design

If you're going to beef up the machine that much, lose the direct drive to the Z motor. Add a belt drive to the Z axis and use at least a 2:1 ratio. You'll increase the torque for the Z axis. If you raise the work surface, you could even attach a piece of extruded aluminum across the bottom of the Y...

Re: 1200x1200 build/mod

Not 5mm. It's a 1/4" ground, polished steel rod I got through Inventables. The bearings are standard R4RS 1/4" ID bearings that I had in my parts bin. That also happens to be the shaft size of a Nema 23 motor. I spent most of my afternoon dorking with the machine. After the X belt mounts, I added a X...
