Stepper for dual Y-axis kit turns twice as fast

Post by mrenouf » Mon Feb 24, 2014 6:56 am

I have a Shapeoko 1 and ordered the dual Y-axis upgrade. I've got everything working and printed the hello world file with no issues. However, when I put the second motor on the belt, I found it was turning twice as fast! They are wired in series and I tested to make sure they are both turning in the same direction.

Is there anything I can do? The only solution I can thing of is to swap it with the X or Z axis... or get a 4 channel driver board where I can adjust the stepping speed.

Did Inventables change the NEMA 17 Steppers they were selling at some point? Say 1.8deg/step instead of 0.9?

Yes, there was at least one instance of the motors changing from 200 to 400 microstep (or vice-versa).

Best thing to do is when introducing a new motor is to swap it w/ a single, so as to maintain a perfect match on the axis which needs dual.
