Re: First Start Up?
Once concern I've had is that some machinists state that Delrin must be allowed to "rest" overnight after a machining operation if precise dimensions are desired and then the operation repeated the next day --- raised that w/ Inventables, but not sure if they followed up, or if it's an option for them at their current supplier at the current price point.
Ah well, I guess no more Delrin block on the SO3?

Re: First Start Up?
My nuts are too tight when I get them from the supplier too, but, at the volume I handle, I can afford to run a M8 tap through all of them real quick. (Plus, almost all customers order the Tr 8 x 2 screw these days, and those nuts are tapped very well -- same supplier.)

Re: First Start Up?
I'm not sure what that noise could be. It may be nothing -- the other axes are damped very differently from the Z, so they'll always sound different. I would try lowering the acceleration. Also, test to see that going back and forth on that axis a few times the same distance lands you back in the exact same spot (watch the handwheel) -- if it does, you're probably fine. Best way to test is to go, say, ten short moves in one direction (5 mm), one long move back (50 mm), and repeat a couple times. If the noise is missed steps, you'll see it won't return to the exact same spot and same orientation of the handwheel.
Just out of curiosity, what happened to that flexible coupler? It looks like it's been stretched a lot!
Your X V-wheels aren't tight enough -- I see you can flex the entire carriage by just turning the Z handwheel.

Re: First Start Up?
after watching your video it sure looks like your z rail is really loose, I can see your spindle rock back and forth as you manually move z up and down, maybe that's the problem...

Re: First Start Up?
Hard to tell from the video: sounds like a resonance, and it could very well be some element of the machine or even the desk that resonates with the motor -- but it could also be missed steps. If the sound gets worse when you reduce the acceleration, then it's a resonance and probably harmless.
It's the entire X carriage that moves. I did not notice the Z axis moving relative to the X carriage, but that's also possible.clockit wrote:after watching your video it sure looks like your z rail is really loose, I can see your spindle rock back and forth as you manually move z up and down, maybe that's the problem...

Re: First Start Up?
The coupler stretched when i was having the binding issue on the Z axis....( 2 more on the way ) I slowed the speed down to 250 and it did get better but very noticable...But the scale is way off.....Never got that far into the tuning yet....Moves like 6 inches for 1 inch.....I have tightened everything i can get ahold of to get rid of that wobble with no luck so far....
