It's finally warm enough to get back out in the garage. In this video, I upgrade the Z axis on the Shapeoko 2 with the Acme upgrade, Belt drive Z-axis kit, and NEMA 23 stepper motor. These upgrades are fantastic. I will be able to move my router closer to the gantry, and the Acme upgrade is super smooth. Next up, more NEMA 23s and tiny G.

good Job. You will really like the upgrade. I am glad that when I did the build from the start We tapped the Z makerslide on both ends. This made of an easy upgrade as I did not have to take the Makerslide off of the plate to do the upgrade.

Here here. The Acme Z-axis screw was one of the best upgrades I've done to the machine.

i have been playing around with the machine. I have all the NEMA 23s hooked up a working. I thought i would not have to take the CNC apart to install the NEMA 23s ... boy was i wrong. The NEMA 17s came off without disassemble, but the hole locations for the 23s were overlapped by the makerslides. Was not hard, just took a lot longer to do, and i had to re-square the machine again. All is all i have very happy with the upgrades so far. It cuts like butter. I can't wait to get the TinyG up and running. Just waiting on some more stepper motor wiring (it should be delivered tomorrow).

I got the tiny G. It was a bit confusing to set up and the instructions were not very clear in a lot of steps. But finally, after a few hours of getting it hooked up and settings set, it works and it works great. Ill post up a video later in the week.

I have the Acme screw upgrade and was looking for the Z axis pully system you have so I can mount the router closer to then Z axis.
The link doesn't work so I am guessing they dont make it anymore.
If a kit is not available, can you provide me with info on whare I can get the specs and parts to do this?

Thanks
K

You could try getting hold of Improbable Construction and see if he has any left over parts for them as he was the one selling them. Or he may have a source for parts you need. I know he has the cad file you could use to make the plate out of aluminum. After the Plate all you need is some standoffs, Bolts, Pulleys and Belt.
