Or was it the "wider" design of the OpenBuild V wheels? I like that the OpenBuild V wheels (both metal and delrin) cover more of the bearing width which should be an advantage. Probably impossible questions to answer, I know! But I am debating the steel vs delrin question and thought I would ask!

The bearings were a nice tight fit into the metal wheels.
They just sort of slid in but feel very tight and stable.
I like them a lot.
I think the wider wheels do help somewhat with the rigidity.

Another question, where did you get the steel V wheels?

Thanks again.

Impressive build IC.
My machine (almost complete, pictures to come soon!) is very similar to yours, 800 x 1200 with steel wheels and black hardened MakerSlide (being part of MakerSlide Europe has its perks :D ), sans the carbon fibre and tall x axis. I have opted for nema 17's all-round except the x axis that will have a 23. I am using a Kress 800, so the weight isn't colossal but I figured that the two nema 17's on the y axis will be well up to the job. Due to availability and cost I have got a load of t2.5 belt along with some aluminium pulleys (that I will bore out accordingly), I also figured the steel cored belt will fare a bit better than the neoprene MXL belt, similarly with the aluminium pulleys over the small plastic ones. My question for you is; what are your experiences with the belt drive train on a larger (heavier) machine? What type do you currently use?

Thanks

Baz

I am still using the MXL belts. They seem to be holding up okay.
I do have some cord separation on the edge of one belt on one side but I think that was due to a idler pulley that had slipped off its bearings and was rubbing hard on the edge.

Dammit IC, I get busy for a few months and come back to find this. That is some fantastic work sir!

Are those shopbot/mechmate v-wheel bearings? Excellent! How are they working out for you?

Edit: Nevermind, I see, openbuild. Still, how are they?

They work really well. I think the ones that Bart sells on the buildlog store are probably better, but these are half the price and are the same size as the Delrin wheels.

Did you just buy the metal v wheel and use your existing bearings/spacer or did you buy the wheel kits?
