Effect of metal wheels on makerslide

Post by PsyKo » Sun Jun 09, 2013 10:04 pm

Hello folks,

I just took picture of my makerslide. FYI, I'm running metal V Wheels on regular Makerslide rails. The result is below. I think some of the scracthes are dust. A little bit went off while cleaning the machine, but not all of it.

So this leads me to several urgently required upgrade :
- Upgrade to Open Rail (or some hard coated linear guide),
- Cover the Wheels from dust ( or use a vacuum with a dust shoe, but I don't like having something blocking my eyes. I like to see what the machine is doing),*
- Add some brushes on the moving part so the rails are cleaned when the wheels travel.

I would consider making some lubricating wipers. Some felt padding on a v that cleans and lubricates the slides. Lube catches dirt, but you really need some form of lube with metal on metal.
