Shapeoko 3 modifications and improvements

Did I miss anything? (my thanks to LTEPM for noting that I'd missed the modified Z-axis plate). Any other ideas? Suggestions for improvements of the machine? Changes which people have made but not shared? I guess we should all be better about posting to: http://projects.shapeoko.com/mods.php

I should finish modeling my ratio reducer. Hard to set a final configuration without drawings or solid models of the machine (or owning one). The main challenge is creating a single adapter that fits all four motor locations. Cost to make them yourself is looking like ~70 apiece if I can't find cheaper suppliers for belts, pulleys, and driveshaft but you double drive torque and go all the way to 15mm wide belts. When I get all the info I need and finish the design I'll post the it and perhaps add it to the wiki myself.

Since we'd just want to use the NEMA23 mounting holes, shouldn't things be straightforward to make so long as one doesn't project from that footprint?

You can't do a belt reduction without the motor sticking out to one side or the other, so even though it bolts to the standard NEMA23 bolt pattern you need to make sure it clears everything around the motor. For example: the X and Z motors are right next to each other on the S3. Do you make one stick right and one stick left? Is there anything to hit either side? Will it restrict machine travels? Do the y-axis adapters need to stick up or back, perhaps inverted so the motor sticks outside the machine? Where do people put their limit switches?

I think one could put the motor on spacers and manage this.

Aren’t there NEMA23 motors w/ integrated pulley step down? I have a NEMA17 on the extruder on my Ordbot.
