LEDs under the X-axis
LEDs under the X-axis
I decided to add a strip of white LEDs under the X-axis that are connected to the fan connector since I am not using the fan. I like the way it turned out and really brightens up the work area.

Re: LEDs under the X-axis
That looks really good! Suppose you used the self adhesive tape added to the strip for installation so its pretty straight forward. Great idea and definitely will do.

Re: LEDs under the X-axis
Looking good.
As I wrote in a recent post in my build-log 'Let there be light'...

Re: LEDs under the X-axis
Yes, just clean the area with alcohol and the self adhesive tape seems to be sufficient.
Re: LEDs under the X-axis
I would like to do this too, can you give me some details of what I need?
Re: LEDs under the X-axis
Thanks for the inspiration!
Total cost is 7€ and installation took 10 minutes, definitely faciliates working on the machine a lot!

Re: LEDs under the X-axis
Kbilly,
It is very easy. Get a strip of 12v LEDs like the ones in the link below. Wipe the bottom of the X-axis with some alcohol to clean it and stick the LEDs to it using the adhesive backing. I cut the wire from the fan provided and soldered it onto the LED strip. Then plug it back into the fan pins. Now when you turn on the machine you have light instead of a fan.

EDIT* My origional post said 5v...should be 12v. I have updated my posts on this to say 12v. My apologies for the confusion....and length of time to correct.

Re: LEDs under the X-axis
I did this mod and after plugging in my led lights and switching on the machine I get a "machine parameter invalid" error. Lights go on, but apparently the SO3 board doesn't like it. When I unplug the lights, everything startups up normally and I can jog.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Peter

Re: LEDs under the X-axis
Hmm, not sure. Verify that your LED's are 12v? Make sure you are using the fan pins?

Re: LEDs under the X-axis
Wait, the fan pins and LEDs should all be 12v, right?Bkamplain wrote:Hmm, not sure. Verify that your LED's are 5v? Make sure you are using the fan pins?
Shapeoko 3 #192 - Complete! Needs limit switches.
