Enclosure talk

Post by Gamble » Thu Feb 18, 2016 2:52 am

For those that have built an enclosure. Knowing what you know now, what would you do different ?
I plan on doing one with extruded aluminum. Should I make it at least an inch or two wider and and deeper? Or as tight as possible?
Thinking using Lexan on the sides but not sure how well it will block noise or if I should use mdf. Heavier and will keep noise down but can't see through it

I made mine out of mdf and it's pretty quite. I made it taller than needed but it works and it easy to get too.

Here is my design. Don't have any pictures on me but its about 90% built. Waiting on the remaining Plexi Glass to come in.

It is built out of S4S 1x2's. 3/4" MDF, 1/2" Plexiglass. Will have a rubber seal around the door. There is enough room for the full cutting area without the Dust Shoe (extends past the shapeoko frame).

If I've calculated things right the Door should open and extend to a point to allow full access to the shapeoko and also push to create a tight seal when closed.

its nothing fancy. made it from 1/2 mdf and its essentially just a box inside a box with a 1 inch gap between them. I also used insulation to help with the noise.
i have since built a cart for it to be on so i can roll it around my shop.

But if i could do it differently...i wish i would have done it sooner!
