XATC = Automatic Tool Changer

Post by xpix » Mon Apr 25, 2016 6:46 am

Hello Friends,

I'm proud to present my XATC (eXtremly simple automatic Tool Changer). The most ATC's for spindles cost around up to 2500 and more bucks. For me it's to expensive and i play a small braingame "If it possible to make this process more simple and cheaper?" and the Answer is "yes!".

What do you think about it? :)

Hi frank,

Great job.
So you can now mill PCB automatically, including tool change and tool length offset sensing ?

Sure, i mean close to ... everything it's beta and a prototype. After the toolchange (a macro running in Chilipeppr) i develop a solution to touch the micro switch in the middle of platform. The good thing, i can fire up an alarm if the tool not changed :)

I wait now for the extra sockets and a special socket: http://www.amazon.de/dp/B01B1P7ZDC
I hope with this "Gator Grip" the XTC dont need a pre-position handling anymore and make this process more easy. :D

Wow...an elegant solution!
No longer have a Shapeoko, but use a machine of my own design...
