Shapeoko 3 Limit Switch Kits

Post by twforeman » Mon May 25, 2015 2:58 am

I have Shapeoko 3 limit switch kits available in my Etsy shop now.

These are complete, pre-wired kits, all you need to do is bolt them on, plug them in and go.

There are only 5 available at this point, but I will keep making them if people buy them.

You can buy them here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/234609790/ ... switch-kit

Wow, those went fast.

I should have a few more in stock in a few weeks. It takes several hours to print out the mounting parts.

Easy to install, work great — we need to work up a comprehensive set of configuration instructions.

Looks great! How much will the next round of kits be going for?

Have you considered a bare kit, sans 3D printed parts for people who already have a working 3D printer?

The kits are $70 + $6 shipping. I'm finishing up the first batch and should have some more by the end of next week.

There is a line of people waiting for them...

Yesterday my 3D printer decided that it didn't want to co-operate, but I talked it around this afternoon.

Would there be an interest in such a thing? Anyone out there with a 3D printer that would like all the bits and bolts and they can print their own mounts?

I would be willing to offer this option for $55 + shipping.

Okay, I have enough switches to put up two print-your-own part listings. (I have more switches due early in the week.)

Note: You need to be able to 3D print the parts for these kits. There are services that will do it for you, but it's not really very cheap.

The largest parts are about 2.5" x 1" so you should be able to print them on almost any 3D printer.

I will make a suggestion. Why don't you replace the nut that is on the head side by a spring and a washer. The washer is used to enlarge the screw head to allow for a bigger spring and the spring is used to keep tension against whatever holds the screw in place, pushing against it.

That is what I did on my 3D printer, along with a pocket for the nut so, I only need a screwdriver to do precise adjustments.

You could do that, but I like my homing switches to hold positive position. You only really need to adjust them once and then they are set.

My 3d printer has an adjustable stop like yours on the z axis, but that's because it needs to know exactly where a zero is in relationship to the platen. On the Shapeoko, the zero can be anywhere, as long as it's repeatable.
