CamBam to UGS, job stopped at m5, m30, other questions

Post by etxbkst » Tue Apr 21, 2015 3:21 am

I just ran a test job after generating GCode via CamBam for the first time. The job stopped about 2/3 through at an m5/m30 code, and I couldn't it to complete.

Also, I made some errors in generating my machining paths, namely I accidently set my second of three 3d paths to roughing instead of roughing > finishing > finishing. It didn't get far enough for me to see if it would pocket a rectangle around the model correctly, although I had the pocket as the first path, and it didn't run. Does CamBam put the pocket last?

Here's a photo of the job. You can there are little islands that I was expecting to pocket to remove.

It was supposed to stop: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/ ... ns_.28M.29
M5 Spindle Control Stop spindle rotation --- if the system is wired up to start/stop the spindle. (v0.8 or later)

M30 Program Pause and End End and rewind. Rewinding refers to programs on punched paper tape. Shorter programs would be connected into an endless loop and be terminated by an M2 (see above), while longer programs would of necessity be rewound at their end by the M30 command. On modern machines M2 and M30 may be considered equivalent. (v0.8 edge or later)

Why would an m30 command come when there are 11k lines left though?

I dunno. CamBam is a commercial program, and I can't support it --- other people use it, maybe someone else can explain it.

Understood. I obviously need to examine my code before running it.

So after looking at the code in CamBam's code editor, I see the m5 and m30 codes are at the very end. I suspect UGS skipped both my pocket and third 3d path, which is why I had 11k lines left. Can anyone give me some insight as to why this happened?

I would suggest trying another comm / control program and see if that happens w/ it --- if not, then submit the file and a bug report to Will Winder, the author of UGS.

What did UGS show in the viewer? How long did this cut take (as it stands)?

You might try ChiliPeppr, if it is time for experimenting. It's good stuff.

This cut took roughly 45 minutes. The viewer showed the pocket as well as the above.

As for chilipeppr, I'm going to give it a go. I got my Pi2 setup tonight, and I redid my paths and exported GCode from CamBam. I'll do another test run tomorrow.
