Which Wiki pages need the most attention?

Post by ThatOtherGuy435 » Fri Mar 29, 2013 1:33 pm

I've been adding and updating a lot of the pages on the wiki lately to try to get it to resemble the current reality a little more. However, I've got such a mess of information in my head from recently building my own ShapeOko and all the research that went with it, I need some perspective.

Which pages on the wiki need the most attention for cleanup? Drop a suggestion here and I'll see if I can do some repair and updating.

Hello,

There is one page I'd really like to see : some kind of troubleshooting/ common issues while operating the Shapeoko.
There is already a troubleshooting page for assembly, but not for operation.
I know it depends a lot of the setup (driver, software workflow, mods), but we already piled up some informations in the forum.
Having a brief description of most common issues and some leads for solution might be very helpful :
Example :
Toolpath being different from expected path: driver overheating, badly formatted file, missed step, etc...

Include several images of problem symptoms to help people identify their own issues.
It's a lot of work, but might be worth it.

Agreed, we need a troubleshooting page, maybe one for calibration as well. (There're places to hook them in at the bottom of the run your first job page)

I've been working on a page for the standard circle-diamond-square test --- once I've prooved out my hand-coded G-code by successfully milling it, I'll get it posted.

I'd also like to see the Upgrades Overview page improved to the point where it was worthy to be made the top link for the Upgrades sidebar section --- but not sure what else needs to be added.

I've started a troubleshooting page, and started adding some basics. I haven't linked it in yet, but feel free to toss information that needs to be categorized and organized on there.

*edit* changed the page name so as to not confuse with http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/ ... leshooting

Another tuning/troubleshooting vote here.

Also more speeds &feeds info would be helpful!

For feeds & speeds we really need people to contribute what they've cut. I think we've already added all the hard data in the forums onto the materials page.

Okay, looks like Troubleshooting is in the bag.

That leaves:

- Electronics overview --- I typed up a quick bit for this, since what was there was an out-dated version of Assembly Step 14 --- someone who's more familiar than I am w/ electronics should look it over, correct and supplement? There're also some redundant? pages which I've linked in from Assembly Step 14 (2 Overview and separate pages for Batch 4 and 5) --- this should be cleaned up
- Calibration --- we've got a pattern for this, I did a ruler and hand-coded diamond-circle-square (needs improvement) and twforeman put up his g-code which he was much more successful w/
- Workflow (there's a stub of a page already)
- I think we also need a page on workholding options / techniques

Also to do:

- work out what's up w/ the missing verifyelectronics.txt file
- finish linking up one page to the other so that one could read the entire wiki w/o having to resort to the sidebar
- update the .pdf assembly instructions --- I think we've got the assembly instructions pretty solid, or am I missing something? Or should we wait until there's a ``ShapeOko Mk. II''?
- pull in the eShapeoko CAD files and more fully document upgrades, esp. the end plates.

More things to do:

- fix the image in Assembly Step 4, http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/images/thu ... M-YA01.png which shows parts out-of-order
- fix the image in Assembly Step 8, http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/images/thu ... M-GA01.png so that it has belt anchors
- figure out how to search for and remove links to downloadrankings.com
- should we make a Copyrights page to clarify the licensing?

I went ahead and made a http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Workholding page, and went ahead and linked it into the sidebar --- pages seem to get more content when they're more prominent. but that and some other edits gutted the Workflow page....

Broke down and pulled in a bunch of forum posts to make a stub page for ``Calibration'':

http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Calibration

If we can get some real content into it, we can add it to the sidebar and add appropriate links to it elsewhere.
