Reconciling item and part numbers

Post by WillAdams » Wed May 08, 2013 12:41 pm

Okay, we have item numbers in the B.O.M.s:

Item Qty. Part Num. Title
1 1 MSK01-05 V Wheel
2 2 MSK01-07 5mm x 16mm x 5mm bearing
3 1 MSK01-08 Precision Washer (1mm thick)

Should we reconcile all of them to be the same from a master list in the main B.O.M. at the Purchasing page? So that every instance of ``MSK01-08 Precision Washer (1mm thick)'' is the same Item #?

Obviously, all instances of the part #s need to be verified (there's one where it's MKS instead of MSK --- that should be corrected to MSK, right?).

Anything else?

I'm also tending towards eliminating the Stock # column in the Master B.O.M. on the Purchasing page on the wiki --- any objections?

Will - as one of the people that help build the assembly wiki and especially the BOM. The Stock Number is the number on the bag from Inventables when I received the kit. That is why is was included so that what was being assembled was accounted for from the Shipping list. But if it servers no purpose then remove it. Might want to check with Edward to see if the info is still correct from Inventables.

Unfortunately, Inventables isn't selling everything (and a lot of the original numbers were from McMaster-Carr and have since been changed to Inventables) --- and we have (AFAICT) an Inventables, or other purchase link for each item, which is easier to check.

I'm willing to change it to Inventables Stock #, so it's more accurate a descriptor --- that'd be easier if they were selling all the parts / components, in reasonable quantities (need 100 M5 washers as a single SKU --- I'm working on another post on that).

I agree with you about that. How about banging on Edward to see if he can fix the problem or we go to Project Inventory numbers (ie just a project sequence list) with links to all the vendors of the product being listed.

Okay, I think I fixed all the item #s --- if someone could glance over things, I'd be grateful (my sister is the proofreader in the family).

I'm okay w/ the Inventables part #s being featured where available, but I really want them to make _everything_ available.

And I went through the Parts page, and have started in on the Assembly Step-by-Step --- then I guess I won't be able to put off working on the .pdf instructions any longer --- unless someone can think of some other things which should be reconciled, correlated, or checked?
