Other issues for the B.O.M.

Post by WillAdams » Thu May 09, 2013 2:00 pm

Okay, I found a minor inconsistency in the number of M5 washers, and have fixed that (need to add a note about an optional 8 washers for motor spacing and that Inventables is shipping 112 washers in the kits currently), but also came across the following:

12 $0.04 SM-H14 8 Hardware Stores, Specialty Hardware Store, Specialty Vendors 25285-08 M3 x 8mm SHCS
This is listed in Steps 4 and 5 as:
SM-H14 M3 x 6mm SHCS

I'm guessing that 8mm was the original length, needed to accommodate the spacers, and 6mm is the new length? Changed the wiki to reflect that --- let me know if my surmise is wrong.

13 $0.02 SM-H15 8 Hardware Stores, Specialty Hardware Store, Specialty Vendors 25287-03 (qty. 10) M3 Flat Washer
Quantity should be 11 per:
Step Quantity
4 4
5 4
9 3
11
Fixed.

14 $0.06 SM-H07 20 Hardware Stores, Specialty Hardware Store, Specialty Vendors 25285-01 M5 x 10mm SHCS
Quantity should be 22 per:
Step Quantity
6 2
8 6
10 4
11 5
12 5
22

20 $0.27 SM-M05 2 Hardware Stores, Specialty Hardware Store, Specialty Vendors 25302-01 Belt Anchor
I guess that quantity is 'cause they're sold in packs of 2 --- I added a note to that effect and increased the quantity to 4

A more serious issue is that there isn't a page which lists the belts as part of the B.O.M., nor I guess, clear instructions on doing this --- I added it to the B.O.M. in the wiki, and moved the instructions as such to the top --- hopefully that'll help.

22 $0.16 SM-H11 6 Specialty Hardware Store, Specialty Vendors 25281-02 Insertion Nut
Quantity should be 8 per instructions:
Step Quantity
8 2
10 4
11 1
12 1
8
But, 2 are only necessary for the old style of belt anchors --- should we consider that deprecated in favour of zip ties? (apparently Inventables is including zip ties in the kits now). I've updated the wiki and added a note.

38 $0.10 24 Hardware Stores 25284-02 5mm Hex Nut
I only count 20:
Step Quantity
3 4
4 6
5 6
6 4
20
Did I miss something? No, there were 2 different entries for this, one w/ 20, the other w/ 24. FIXED.

Okay, I've done what I can --- still need to re-work the Item #s, I believe --- it'd be great if people could look this over for anything I might've missed.

You are right. Now that the motor plates have 22 mm diameter central holes, you don't need the extra washers to use as spacers (so you can safely remove them), and M3 x 6 mm is the correct screw to use.

You mean 4 are necessary for the old style belt attachment (steps 8, 11, 12). If you remove them (or add a note), please remember to do the same for 4 of M5 x 10 screws and 4 of M5 washers too.

The kit also includes a waste board, 4 angle brackets to bolt the machine to the waste board, 4 wood screws, as well as 4 extra M5 x 10 screws, 8 extra M5 washers and 4 extra M5 nuts for fixing the brackets to the machine. That would be assembly step 13½. That's why Inventables gives us a few more washers and 24 nuts, but I suspect they messed up the count (especially the M5 x 10 screws) because the belt anchors had never been included in the instructions at step 8.

Thanks!

I've made a note on the wiki to that effect.

I've got some text from Edward on that at Step 12, ``Installing a Deck'', but I guess we need something explicit on that, so as to avoid the accusation of ``dodgy instructions''.

Next up is to clean up the Parts page --- I think we'll need some sub-pages for some items, some of the Notes are getting a bit long.
