Change minimum search term length to two characters?

Just found an inconvenient problem when doing advanced searching... search terms by default in phpBB must be 3 characters or more.

Kind of a problem when one of the mandatory search terms (for filtering) is +"nc".

Would it be feasible to adjust the search term length down to 2 chars minimum? Apparently it's fairly easy to do in phpBB, though I've not run up a local instance to try things out:

[*] Admin Control Panel -> General-> Search settings -> Min characters indexed by search

It may need the indexes rebuilt afterwards too. eg Delete then create them. Apparently also somewhere in the Admin Control Panel.

For reference, the search terms I was using were:

Code: Select all

+"limit switch kit" +"nc"
With the "nc" being ignored... there are still 100+ matches. Not impossible to sift through... but well... perhaps 2 chars should be considered ok for searching on. ;)

The board is setup to use the mysql search settings. The search length is set by a mysql setting and I'm not sure that I want to change it.

Setting the length down from 4 to 2 will probably cause some DB inflation and probably slow down searching.
