Coming back to shapeoko 2 and tinyg - questions on software

Post by thenated0g » Thu Feb 22, 2018 5:58 pm

I have the shapeoko 2 and a tinyg controller. I was in the process of selling a house and moving and its been in a box for a year or 2. I dont even have the same pc anymore that i was using. Everything was working before i packed it up but have pretty much lost all my knowledge of how i had it working. What is the recommended software now for sending/generating gcode? Any suggestions is much appreciated. I have been putting this off for a while and really want to get my machine up and running again.

Carbide Create is the new kid on the block, and wonderfully capable for being free: https://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Carbide_Create

If that won't work, see: https://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/CAD and https://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/CAM

Glad I saw this thread. I missed the announcement that Carbide Create is now free! I will have to give it a look. Thanks!

Thanks that looks like a great program, i went thru and watched the tutorial videos. I dont see any way to add another machine though. It only as the 4 built in machines which do not include the shapeoko 2. Is this something i need to worry about as im using a tinyg at the moment on it. Or is the shapeoko 3 close enough?

Also what what way are people liking to send the gcode to the cnc? I think i was using some chillipeppr thing previously, but cant remember exactly.

Shapeoko 3 will be close enough --- the size only matters for the 3D Preview.

List of software options at: https://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php ... _/_Control --- Universal G-Code Sender, bCNC, and Chilipepr seem to be the most popular, with GrblPanel the new kid on the block, and GrblGru popular for Windows folks.

Thanks for the replies. That carbide program combined with octopi and chillipeppr will be a great start. Thanks for the assistance.
