I changed everything back to my original setup and all is good. I will worry about getting the printed pla setup to work another day. Thanks for everyones insight.

I also had this problem due to a well used spindle. Mine was a dremel tool and caused enough interference for Grbl to crash randomly. You can try running your job in the air with the spindle off to isolate the problem.
