Relocate "HOME" to lower left

Post by gary_in_ns » Tue Jun 05, 2018 3:30 pm

I've been using cutting devices for 30 years with the origin at lower left, vinyl cutters , engravers, plotters etc.
I have a cnc mill that's homing just great and by inverting some GRBL config settings it's homing XY to lower left and the Z axis homes to the top of travel where the limit switch is.

However when I issue a "?" after homeing it reports my present X is -330 etc etc for the other axis depending on power up location.

After homing how can I reset the coordinates to X0,Y0,Z60

Most of the other non-gcode devices I use and even my Smoothie controlled gcode device sets the coordinates the way I want them after homing?

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sort of.

If you set zero to the position you want it will be retained and used as such for most purposes. See https://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php ... _of_travel

To get the machine origin to the lower left is rather more involved and requires setting Grbl compile time options and so forth and isn't recommended or supported.

Why not use Work Coordinate System to achieve what you are trying to do?

The machine will Home to right rear, your WCS X0 Y0 can be set anywhere in your machine travel, but machine coordinates will be a negative number in reference to the machine homing position. Movement commands will be in reference to your WCS 0 coordinates.

The answer is always "Use the work coordinates system."
