Shapeoko #736 upgrade

Post by PsyKo » Sun May 12, 2013 11:37 pm

Hello folks,

It's been a while since my last visit here.
But here I am with an improved Shapeoko. The upgrades include :
- Dual X makerslide,
- Metal spacer,
- Metal V Wheels for X and Z axis,
- Longer rails (from 375 to 600mm)
- New Y end plates,
- New X end plates,
- Improved wire management.

I know that's a lot of updates, and I'm very happy with the result. Below is a couple of picture.

For the results of the improvement, it is GREAT. The result in aluminium is much better. It's possible to directly plunge into aluminium, double the depth of pass, milling faster and also a lot more space :)

I still have to redo the CNC bed.

For the tests, I created a real simple but effective pen holder :

I ran the Shapeoko Calibration pattern, and the result is below.

There are some artifacts, but this is me playing with the pen holder during the job :)

Looks great!

I wish I could justify new end plates --- almost done putting my machine back together --- ran short on belting, so need 2 longer eye bolts to make up the lack (added a note on the wiki).

Still need to work out cable management --- what size drag chain did you use?

The inner size for drag chain is 18 x 25mm. It's a little small given the 7mm diameter wire cable I'm using for the motors (4 x 1mm² + sheath). I managed to put in the cable for each motor + the spindle cable (4 wire in total)

Excellent resource! I just added them to the Purchasing page as a ``Specialty hardware store'' --- does that seem okay, or should they be a ``Specialty vendor''?

The listing is:

HPC (Europe) --- site is available in English, French and Italian

Should anything additional be added or should they be moved?
