Car key

Post by mauri » Tue May 06, 2014 7:37 am

I build a new enclouser for my car key, because the old (plastic) one was broken.

Material: beech wood
Finish: beeswax

Haha that's a nice one :)

Good job.
Did something went wrong with the middle wood part on the 1st picture ?

That's neat. I love the wooden buttons.

I would have put the hex nuts on the same side as the buttons and inset them flush w/ the surface --- you could then use a hand countersink for the screws on the non-machined side.

Excellent!

After all, the key was cut using a CNC mill too!

Got to share this with my locksmith mates.

Locksmith mates approve.

They also reckon it is a saleable product. And since they are about £40 you'd have a good margin in there.

I've been thinking about what it would take to do this exact mod. I have a similar three button VW key fob with the flip out key. Nice to know it can be done, I'm sure I'll be attempting it soon.
