Cut the TOOL wrench out of aluminum.

Post by groguard » Sun Jun 29, 2014 2:30 am

Hey guys, I haven't post anything in a while so I figured I would show you what I did today. I decided today I was going to cut out the TOOL wrench
for my girlfriend as she is a big TOOL fan. I figured since its a pretty simple design I would just make my own DXF. I used Inventor to design it, and
CamBam to get everything setup. Its 1/8" 6061-t6 aluminum, I used a Niagara C330 1/8" 3 flute TiAlN coated end mill. I didnt use any coolants or
cutting oil. My settings .2mm DOC 650mm/min feed 100mm/min plunge. Took a little over an hour to do the whole job. Its 281mm long 135mm wide.
Here are some pics

For those who are curious, TOOL is a heavy metal band, and the (intentionally) rather phallic wrench is their logo.

Considered editing the title of the post, but decided not. If anyone is offended or troubled, make a separate thread and we can work it out.

Interesting logo. Was there much cleanup needed on the piece or was it mostly burr free? I see a lot of brackets and such, it is good to see some aluminum cut for other purposes.

Yes, if you guys feel its inappropriate I will remove it.

As far as the cleanup goes I just took a sanding block to all the edges to make sure they weren't sharp. Other than that it was pretty much good to go right out of the machine.
