This is my first go at creating a Edge Lit Plexiglass sign for a friends daughter celebrating her 4th birthday.
I milled the plexi using a 60deg v-bit for the graphic of hello kitty I then used a diamond tipped spring loaded engraving bit to etch her name into the heart. I then milled the base as a 3D milling job first cutting the top slot then doing a profile milling operation to mill out the base half way through the wood as I did not have a bit to mill all the way through. I then flipped the board and milled out the bottom to fit the electronic and widened the slot for the plexi at the bottom to hole the LED lights. I then did a second profile operation to cut the rest of the way through the wood to finish the base. I then milled a piece of aluminum to act as the bottom cover put it all together and this is the final result....

Re: Edge lit Plexiglass night light
......Here is the night light lit up
Night light turned on Note in this image the small ring on top where the plexi enters was not there, I added the upper ring to the base to further hide the led lights below.

Re: Edge lit Plexiglass Night Light
Where did you get the spring loaded engraving bit, or is it something you custom made? I want to start working on similar projects, so I want to be ahead of the curve when I start.
Thanks,
Allan

I see this is an older post. But you've had luck. I'm trying to mill plexiglass as well. What are your feeds and speeds, if you don't mind sharing?
