Milescraft Downcut Bit Test - Screen

Post by Dhpenner1 » Tue Dec 23, 2014 6:01 am

I received my shipment of new bits and thought up a quick project to test them on a couple levels. I wanted to try painting the surface of my piece before milling again and i wanted to see how it would handle a pattern. I made the file in Illustrator, made some gcode in JSCut and sent it to my tinyG with Chilipeppr. The bit worked flawlessly and it was cheap too. Im happy with the project.

That was a clever use of the bandsaw-- I hadn't thought about doing it that way. Also, I may have to add a downcut bit to my arsenal...

Aaaaa, push stick, push stick! Bandsaws are great for slicing meat and bone.

Great idea, I use a down cut bit on all my wood projects. They reduce the fuzzies a lot. I have used the band saw trick but only to make dowel plugs. Thanks for the new technique.

Pssh, push sticks are for people that have already used up all of their spare fingers. ;)

I appreciate the kind words and concern for my fingers. Please note that my videos are sped up a lot so it always looks worst than it is. Also, before i cut through the last bit of wood I always pull it through from behind. Doing scroll work on the bandsaw gets my fingers closer to the blade and I can't use a push stick for that. I'm not recommending anyone use my techniques.

I think I'm going to modify the svg file so it'll line up better after its split in half if I try it again.
