Award Plaque

Post by atrueresistance » Fri Feb 27, 2015 2:04 pm

I volunteered to create an award plaque for a large donation to cub scout pack 159. First time using a ball nose bit. 0.125" shank, 0.087" ball

That looks very nice, would you mind posting some additional angles and details?
  • What were the speeds and feeds?
  • Is it a stock Shapeoko?
  • Did you do the edges with a profile or a separate tool?

Wow quick response!

After trial and error using inkscape and jscut, I ended up using easel That is the project link.
  • What were the speeds and feeds?'
    • 0.040 in depth
    • 0.07 in tool (yes it is lying as the ball was .087", couldn't get the toolpath to generate otherwise)
    • 32" per minute (Sent using Chilipeppr, and ended up increasing the speed as it ran to where I felt it ran fast and accurately.)
  • Is it a stock Shapeoko?
    • Not exactly, modified Shapeoko 1
    • Dual X motors
    • Dual Y 1,000mm makerslide
    • 1,000mmm X makerslide expansion
    • DW660, normally with a 3d printed dust shoe. Couldn't use it here as the Z axis makerslide was about 1mm from missing one of the bolts at 0,0,0.
  • Did you do the edges with a profile or a separate tool?
    • Separate tool, first time using a router table as well.
