Post by cmcta82 » Mon May 05, 2014 2:08 pm

Hi,

I´m looking for Aluminium plates >=5mm in ebay and i found a seller with good prices for aluminum plates but is an ALMG 4,5 (5183), anyone have worked with this kind of aluminum?i do a search in the forum but i found nothing. I can put the link of the seller if you want.

What i need is your feedback about this type of aluminium:)

5183 is an alloy used for welding wire, so I doubt they make plates out of it. However, 5083 is a common alloy for sheet and plate, especially when thicker than 3-4 mm. Here's a datasheet on the 5083 alloy.

I don't know about the price, but I have laser-cut parts made of 4 mm 5083, and they're very tough. It's a strong alloy, with excellent corrosion resistance (even in marine applications); however, it's not easy to machine at all. If you can, choose 6082, which is just as tough, but much easier to machine.
