Req. for info.

Post by Lookin4help » Wed Oct 16, 2019 8:09 pm

I want to add a new tool to my Carbide Create inventory. I know how to do that, but I don't know how to answer the questions about the router bit. What I want to use is a CNC spoilerboard surfacing carbide tipped bit. It is a 3 wing 1/4 shank, 1 inch cut diameter, straight cut.

For tool diameter, I presume I use 1 inch

For flute lengthy, I am guessing that is the width of the carbide tipped cutting blade, which is 1/4 inch.

For angle (per side) - I haven't a clue what goes there.

For number of flutes, I presume this to be the number of cutting blades (wings) which is 3.

Last of all, I am using this on soft wood. What speeds and feeds should k be using. If I leave what is auto set it will take me 37 minutes to surface a 12.5 x 5 inch board. That seems like an excessive amount of time to me.

All this is being done with my Shapeoko XXL.

A novice offers his thanks for help!

Sounds correct. See: ... ding_Tools to confirm --- the Glossary may help as well:
Shapeoko 3XL #0006 w/ Carbide Compact Router w/0.125″ and ¼″ Carbide 3D precision collets
Nomad 883 Pro #596 (bamboo)
