New SO3 Table
New SO3 Table
Hey guys,
I thought I would show off the new bed I made for my SO3. Give it a look and let me know what you think.

That's awesome. Did you make it or have it made?

I can't imagine having that made for less than the $400 cost of the fancy new aluminum table, but damn is that nice.

Cool, that looks really nice.
How thick is the aluminium, what size are those T-slots, and how many hours do you reckon it's taken you so far?
It looks a lot better than my work-in-progress aluminium plate bed. I'm going with M5 holes spaced 50mm apart instead of slots. (for the first one) Will see how that goes. May switch to using slots, like yours instead, or a combination of both.

I am very lucky to have a Mazak CNC Milling Center. So, the cost to make - 6061 Aluminum Plate $240.00 Machining $0.00, Blanchard Grinding $0.00
I would say the time it took me to make it, the Autocad, Programming the Mazak, Test run in wood and Aluminum run was about 6 hours all together.
I also had the plate Blanchard Ground to .0001 across the entire top and bottom, it turns out that may be a little overkill because the S03 is not capable of that kind of resolution. But I have one very flat plate.
As for advice on making one yourself, you maybe able to source the plate a little cheaper on ebay, I got mine along with our weekly order from our supplier in Houston. Get to know someone who owns a machine shop or check if there is a Tech School where you could use there equipment.
I thought about selling them on here but the machine time just costs to much, my machines are busy all day and I just don't have the time or the man power to turn them out right now. If i did i think I could get the price down to about 350-375 each. Time will tell if it is something I will consider.
Thanks,

My plate is .500 thick and the slots are .320 on top and .875 in the bottoms, I made it this way to use with some Rockler Clamps I had, I really like them and they work great.

There are no drawings for it posted, I just need the time to get them on there. I will try and post the Auto Cad file for it.
Thanks,
