Power supply confusions

Post by GoSpeedRacer » Sat Nov 21, 2015 6:28 pm

I have a Shapeoko 3 in the box waiting on me to finish my controller. I have purchased the superpid and a g540 but I'm running into confusion on the steppers. Our factory power brick is 24v but according to the specs the steppers we use are fine at 48v. Is there any reason to stick with 24v? I want to future proof as much as possible so the Meanwell 48v 6.7a power supply is the way I was trending

Just to make sure we're talking apples to apples here - the spec you need to look at is the max voltage for your stepper *driver* not the stepper motors. The stepper driver will take care of managing the voltage/current to the stepper motors.

The specs for the G540 4 axis driver claim to be good all the way up to 50VDC.

Ok gotcha Edward, and thank you for the reply. I guess I was misunderstanding how the power was distributed. Makes more sense now
