Shapeoko 3 circles problem

Post by tek » Sun Feb 14, 2016 8:57 pm

I have problem with circles on my Shapeoko that I just put together. I notice this same problem when I'm cutting with bits and drawing using pen. All belts are tight. Same happens it seems anywhere on the bed. These circles in the picture are 10mm diameter.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, what do I need to adjust? Thank you.

Most likely your machine is out of square.

Make sure that the X and Y rails are square to each other and that your Z rails are perpendicular to the bed of the machine.

Yeah, I got it to run better, the X rail was not square to the side Y rails. I had to use clamps (your idea  ) to bring them close to square and circle is much better. I did not get from your descriptions how did you check them to make sure they are square. I looked at how the X rail sides meet the ends where Y rails are attached.

Ah, yes, I never did talk about how I measured the squareness.

I held a 1-2-3 block on the Y rail and placed my large engineers square against the X rail and the 1-2-3 block. Maybe I'll have to get my wife to come down and take a photo of it - it takes two hands. :)

Belts tight, that's good. Also check for a loose pulley set screw.

How are you attaching the sharpie? It’s possible the sharpie moves in certain directions. That’s what happened to me during initial tests. Looked terrible.
