Waste Board Dimensions

Here is the aluminum jig plate I posted files for. .250"Thk 6061-T651 Aluminum. Tapped too many times to count with M6 Stainless threaded inserts for the purposes of mounting a variety of fixtures, spoilboards, clamps, & vacuum plates to. Holes spacing is 40mm Square. Be sure to check out the M6 Cam Bolt Clamps by Mitee-Bite. If using the files I posted which do not account for that random extra 1.73mm "someone" decided to add to one side of the wasteboard dimension, just open all of the mounting holes up with a 1/4" drill and the board mounts fine, centered evenly across the machine. I removed all of the unnecessary steel sections from beneath the original wasteboard which gained me some additional cut depth, I think it works out to an additional .375"?? -Chris

I'm wondering if Chris (RawIndDesign), Edward, or someone else who has their SO3 in-hand and running could take either Edward's original wasteboard design file OR Chris' PDF/DXF file (for the alum version) and add a rectangle (and maybe dimensional call outs?) to the drawing clearly marking the absolute position of the actual WORKING envelope relative to the overall board. I've yet to receive my SO3 (nor tracking), so I'm trying to keep myself busy by working on my own variation of an improved workholding/wasteboard system.

Thanks in advance. I will certainly share my end results with everyone as well.

The envelope extends roughly 8.25 inches to the left and right of the center, and covers the front 15 inches of the wasteboard.

(Y axis travel extends for an inch or so beyond the front of the wasteboard, but the lip on the front makes it hard to mount anything across the whole area.

The X axis measurements were accurate.

The Y axis window is closer to 14 7/8", with about 2 5/8" of travel in front of the wasteboard.

Excellent! So, is that 14 7/8" including the 2 5/8" travel available beyond the front of the wasteboard? Or would that be a total workable Y envelope of 14 7/8" on the wasteboard PLUS another 2 5/8" over the front side of it for a total of 17 1/2" of overall Y travel?

On my machine, I get (approximately):

14.25" from center of endmill at back of machine to edge of Wasteboard, 16 7/16 total travel

16 1/2" side-to-side

My machine is slightly constrained by limit switches, but that should be a usable ballpark (which I thought was on the wiki).

I wanted to design my own wasteboard, mainly to help keep the machine flat as it will get moved around from time to time. But something is puzzling me. Edward's drawing of th wasteboard (http://bit.ly/1Fh5lJ5) shows a width of 721.73 with holes for the M6 fasteners placed 40mm in from each outside edges. Whereas, the drawing posted by RawIndDesign shows the width as a nice round 720mm, also with holes 40mm in from each outside edge. Did RawIndDesign get the dimensions wrong, if so why did the wasteboard fit after it was machined? Puzzled...
