I push buttons

Postby Joe_C » Wed May 13, 2015 7:15 pm

I reported the other day that I discovered while in the Carbide PC control software jog screen, that the arrow keys commanded the S3 to move XY +/-, and that <> jogged Z+/-. Today I discovered that I could change the jog speed with the keyboard buttons 1 thru 5 with 1 = Jog Fast thru 5 = jog 0.01 mm . With this info., I will build a USB jog controller using an Arduino with a HID library, like the PJRC Teensey 3 or Esplora, unless someone else gets to it first.

Very cool!

I went ahead and added that to the wiki: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/ ... l_Software

Anyone have a small bluetooth keyboard which only has L, M, 1--5, +, - and arrow keys? (guess I'd also need <alt>, <tab> and <enter> to manipulate file dialogs --- is there a way to get the load project window using the keyboard?

I've pushed all of the buttons, but nothing additional happened, except, that Page up and Page down command the Z axis as well as <>.

Thanks!

Going to go make a feature request over at the Carbide3D forums right now.

Thanks for the mention over there. I have another thought, in keeping with the nature of the jog commands.. I think it would be cleaver if there was a 'zero out' the machine shortcut. I don't have my limit switches in place yet and the home feature is not enabled. Point being, that when that happens, I might find additional keyboard commands.

Cheers;

Here is a pendant sized wireless keyboard for accessing the jog functions. http://www.amazon.com/FAVI-FE01-BL-Wireless-Keyboard-Touchpad/dp/B003UE52ME

Yeah, my son got one of those for his Raspberry Pi. Keys are kind of small and there are an awful lot of them.

I’m thinking I want a special-purpose keyboard which has:

- decent sized keys
- in a useful / sensical arrangement
- is a bit smaller

I’ve found a couple which seem promising, or maybe I’ll just use a Wii Remote. Or maybe bCNC’s pendant feature.

Okay, just to cover this, here are some of the keyboard / pendant options I've been looking at:

- Wii Remote
- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BALK9CM --- QQ-Tech® Newest Mini Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard Handheld with Touchpad ... (Bluetooth HID)
- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003VWU2WA --- Griffin Technology NA16029 PowerMate USB Multimedia Controller
- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008CXTW5G --- Azio Levetron Mech5 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Cherry Black MX Switches (KB577U) --- this keyboard has a small detachable sub-keyboard....
- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GOKV98M --- Impulse Universal Game Controller, Key Finder and Selfie Snapper... Black
- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004YC4NN0 --- ION GO PAD Folding Computer Game Controller
- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CJKW4WQ --- Satechi Keypad for iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, MacBook, and Mac Mini (Wireless)
- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MB6CNN8 --- 8Bitdo Bluetooth Wireless Classic NES Controller for iOS and Android Gamepad - PC Mac Linux
- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002YVD3KM --- Classic USB NES Controller for PC
- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050PUGZE --- SANOXY® Wireless USB PC Remote Control Mouse for PC

That last one is looking like the most likely candidate right now. I found a utility which will allow one to re-map keys if nothing else works....

although this popped up in the list all of sudden: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ASIPZUY?psc=1 IPazzPort Fly Air Mouse 2.4GHz Mini Wireless Keyboard with 2 Mode Learning IR Remote Black and looks interesting.

Ideally any unit I used would have Bluetooth and mouse pointer capabilities for convenience.

This looks interesting: http://www.etotalk.com/xiaomi-mi-box-bl ... p8411.html

And for further discussion / documentation.... I worked up a section on the wiki's Pendant page: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/ ... and_usages where I'm trying to start a list of all the desired functionality which one might want, and maybe suitable keys.

If we can work this up into a hierarchy of

must have <--> useful to have <--> nice to have

maybe we can work up some functional ideas on pendants and maybe even communication / control software....
