Skewed X axis

Post by Sorwrith » Thu Jan 21, 2016 7:06 am

So I currently have an issue with my machine. The bed of the machine is straight, maybe not as square as I would like but seems square enough. Problem is, the X-axis is skewed on one side by about a millimeter or two. If I bring the gantry completely to the front the left side plate will make contact to the steel plate that the Y-axis extrusion is bolted on to, but the right side is about 1 or 2 millimeters off. Would shimming the back 2 bolts on the X-axis extrusion on the left side fix the issue or is there something fundamentally wrong with my plates or extrusion?

Yes, shimming the parts is one way to fix this.

Before that, instead (after squaring the frame) try:

- loosen the X-axis belt
- loosen the gantry end plate bolts
- clamp the end plates against the front panel
- measure the location of the X-axis extrusion relative to the front panel, carefully square and plumb as necessary
- gradually tighten the bolts, checking and adjusting as you go.
