Using the Y axis travel in front of the waste board

Hi Guys

Part of the work area on the new SO 3 overhangs the front of the frame. This could be handy to use for certain types of cuts on long material - for example:



Has anyone made use of this to fixture/clamp tall/long stock? Do you have any advice and/or pictures?

Yes, that was designed into the machine --- I worked up a fixture for this early on, but have never gotten around to using it.

I'm designing one now, and I keep finding myself having to make trade-offs on rigidity, capacity, possibility of cutter intersection, etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated because it might save me some time, or some end mills...

Mine was pretty straight-forward, a matched pair of jigs with a couple of cross dowels to hold everything in place --- I'll try to find the files this evening.

Thank you... I had been working along a different line of design, and this has given me some new ideas. I'll build something next week after I evict the passel of family and friends that are going to descend on my poor abode in a few hours. All this Holiday stuff gets in the way of my being a dedicated grumpy hermit.
