Software for the Shapeoko

I am really interested in getting a shapeoko cnc but I need to know if I can run other programs to create a g code and upload to the machine. I see that they are recommending Carbide Create and Carbide Motion. I am not familiar with Carbide Motion but have played with Carbide Create and it's very difficult to use for me. I have used F-Engrave and Universal Gcode sender on Bobs e3 and am wondering if they can be used on the Shapeoko as well. The programs are limited in features for sure but I have a fair understanding of them. I don't want to spend the money on the Shapeoko and find out that I am tied to using these Carbide programs with it. Any help would be appreciated..

You can use any software which will support Grbl / G-Code.
