Any different upgrading dual Y motor to Nema 23 ?

Hey Guys

Anybody know if upgrading to dual Y motor to Nema 23 instead will make a difference in quality of the print?

Upgrading to dual Y motors will certainly increase the quality of the output.
Switching to NEMA 23 motors will not really affect quality but may increase your ability to go deeper and faster or it may just end up causing things to break.

From what I understand, switching to steel wheels and aluminium spacers is more likely to improve accuracy than just upping the size of the motors.
Slowing down the movements may also improve accuracy as that cuts down on backlash and flexing.

And finally, getting some sort of threaded rod on the X and Y axis instead of belts will also help.

Of course, as I haven't received my ShapeOko yet, I'm just basing it off of what I've read on the forum, experimentation with my(not yet finished Prusa Mendel 3D printer) and a dash of common sense.
In other words, there's a 3% chance that one of more of my suggestions are slightly off.

I know other machines do that, but I can't recall more than discussion of it for a ShapeOko --- did I miss something?

I'd eventually like to have multiple machines, and I could see making a small (tiny?) unit for intricate milling of metals.

No, I don't think you've missed anything, really.
As it'll require new motor mounts, bearing holders at the other end, and the coupling to the traversing carriage, it's a bit of a job to make.
Most probably won't even need the accuracy improvement, either.
(Especially if you can get most of it by switching to steel wheels, metal spacers, generally stiffening up the machine and slowing the speed down a bit)

My answer is "No" because these are stepper motors. Either all the steps are completed or they are not. The NEMA 17 does the job. the 23's might be able to do it faster but in the end the material and the bit will determine the cut (feed) rate. Your seek rate might become a bunch faster but that doesn't effect the quality.
