Speed Control for about $50

Post by xxxbrokedownxxx » Tue May 19, 2015 11:58 pm

I was recently trying to mill some plastics and found it very difficult without being able to control the speed. I looked into the options for controlling the spindle speed but they were a bit out of my price range. So I bought the MLCS 9400 Standard Duty Router Speed Control that I had seen mentioned several times and tried it out. I was able to adjust the speed, but I still did not know the number of RPM's nor could I even guess so I came up with an idea. I looked for a cheap Laser Tachometer that I could take apart and somehow make it work with my DeWalt DW660. It took a bit of tweaking but I eventually got it to work. Mind you, Im no engineer and have little experience with electronics but I can figure stuff out.

Here is a youtube video demonstrating how it works
