Replacement Stepper Motor Source?

Post by Dallas » Sat Dec 26, 2015 3:26 am

I want to build a rotary table attachment for my S3. If I get it to work I'll post pix and details. :)

I plan to unplug the x-axis stepper motors and connect one of the cables to a nema 23 that turns the table. (I'll fake the rotary axis control. In my CAD, I'll design things in x y z space knowing that the x axis will actually be angular displacement. Thus a line becomes an arc.)

I'm lazy and don't want to disconnect one of the existing nema 23's to power the rotary table. I want to buy another that will be compatible with the exist electronics and Carbide Motion. I've looked thru the forums and found that the supplied 23's are specced around 2 amps and 3 volts. That's fairly unusual. There are lots of 2.8 amp nema 23's available but very few <2 amps.

Ultimately I found this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O32 ... RJFO1VFP1B

Will it work off the grbl driver?

Am I missing something? Can I get a higher torque stepper motor to power my table and still be compatible with the existing electronics?

Thanks!

Phil

We discuss motors on the wiki: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Parts#Motors and in more detail at: http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Stepper_Motors

But mostly in an SO1/2 context.

Since Sparkfun has begun selling the kit maybe they’d have a matching listing?
