Power to stepper motors - ShapeOko 2 vs ShapeOko3?

Is the maximum amperage rating going to the stepper motors from the integrated Carbide 3D board on the ShapeOko 3 greater than the maximum amperage rating from the GShield on the ShapeOko2? I can't seem to find the specs on the boards.

It's my understanding that the Carbide Motion boards are set up for 1.8A and work well with motors of up to 2.0A

The wiki lists the motors for the SO2 as "2.8 A motors sold by Inventables as of July 2014"

and at http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/GrblShield notes "2.5 amps per winding (bipolar steppers)"

Does that mean that the arduino-gshield combo can provide more current to the steppers than the Carbide 3D board?

No, I suspect it means that both stepper driver sets have similar capabilities, but since the gshield was intended for use with smaller motors there was some need for more amperage, and people were more lenient in what they were connecting than the company can allow.

Probably best to contact support@carbide3d.com and someone who actually knows will respond.

If you need a board with more powerful stepper drivers, the Gradus M1 PRO GRBL CNC Controller from Panucatt seems the leading contender: http://www.panucatt.com/product_p/gm1pro.htm
