48v to 24v step down converter

Post by sea2stars » Fri Dec 08, 2017 7:59 pm

Ok. It's about time to think about upgrading my spindle; I'm already working on upgrading my ShapeOko 1 beyond what I've already done.

I've been looking at getting a Chinese 48v 300/400w spindle, but I'd like to try and keep the number of external components to the bare minimum to fit into one enclosure. What would be the downsides of using one of these to only have one 48v power supply powering the spindle and stepper motors inside one enclosure? This would probably also include a relay, PWM controller, and I'm already using one stepdown controller to run a Raspberry Pi and Arduino/Buildlog Stepper shield in the same enclosure.

Would noise be a huge issue?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just make sure to increase the wattage of the 48v power supply accordingly.
