I'm looking to build a kit similar to yours and was wondering why you decided to go with the 60x40 1000mm extrusion VS. the makerslide? Is this an X axis strengthening technique? Along with also adding the open rail for more rigidity? How has this set up worked for you and problems once up and running? Do you have and links to the extrusion and the open rail? Lastly how did you attache the open rail to the extrusion I see many screws but were they just taped in or are they screwed into extrusion nut. Thanks for the help

Hey Danny,

Yes the reason why I went for the 60x40 extrusion is because it makes it much stiffer than say just 2 pieces of makerslide. I also felt this was better than bolting 3 pieces together, the whole sandwiching a piece of 40x20 between the 2 pieces of makerslide. I figured one solid piece should theoretically be stronger than 2 or 3 pieces bolted together. I was looking for the easiest way to improve the X axis without having to do too much fiddling. Also by going with the 60x40 you have the largest size the plates can accommodate. Also the screws of the openrail are secured using the t slots nuts. If you have any other questions, just let me know.

It was purchased at us.misumi-ec.com part number HFS5-4060-1000. It was also not too expensive, around $23 before shipping.
