First cut...short vid...

Post by bharbour » Mon Oct 27, 2014 10:46 pm

I decided to create a pattern for a Fleur de Lis coaster in MakerCAM. This was a test cut in Pine. Plunge depth was 0.03125" and feed rate 5inches per minute. Even at that, it seemed to tax the spindle. I will go with a shallower plunge when I cut it for real.

Looks good! I'm getting into it myself when i will finally get my delivery...
Just a question, it seems like something went wrong... there was a straight line cut out where you wouldn't expect it.

What happened there? Do you know the error?

That's 0.8mm plunge?
Yeah, you shouldn't have any problems going much faster.

I was cutting at 500mm/minute (about 20ipm) with a 0.5mm (slightly less than 0.02") plunge with the spindle and a 1/8" two-flute endmill.
I'm getting almost the same speed at .75 - 1mm with a 2mm endmill with the Quiet Cut.
(I still need to test 1/8" and 3/16" on it, but expect that I can ramp it up a bit as they're stiffer)

I'm guessing that the straight cut is from a previous test?
Weird guy...
