That probably includes little custom programs, I would say.

Maybe we need a separate poll for 2.5 D CAM tools? Both Carbide Create and MakerCAM can't do 3D work, so seeing them here is confusing for a newbie like me.

I've been using BobCAD for a couple years now. Got a really good price by telling them I'm a hobbiest. There's a bit of a learning curve (especially if you're just getting into CNC), but once you figure it out, it makes other hobby grade CAM seem like tinker toys. Complete control over toolpath and very good pathing algorithms. It doesn't try to cut full width slots at full speed like every other CAM program I tried (MeshCAM, CAMbam, Protodesk, etc.). And has a simulator built in. Not for the faint of heart, though. I think I paid $350 or so for v27. Well worth the money, in my opinion.
